mettatations

Mettâtations and Meditations.

Mettatations and meditations are closely related, but different practices. Scientific research has shown the many health benefits of a meditation practice. Mettatations build off of a meditative practice, but with an added positive spin. Mettatations are specifically designed to actively cultivate positive virtues like peace, love, compassion, forgiveness, gratitude, and wisdom in your mind, body, and spirit while you are moving (if you want to move).
Mettatations have no rules and they can be done by anyone, anywhere, at any time. Sit, lie down, child's pose, move, bend, twist, it's all about what you need. The goal isn't to try to control the mind but to physically and mentally train it with positive virtues.

Mettâtations grew out of my meditative practice and can be a great precursor to meditation. By practicing Mettatations, you can actually become a better meditator. Mettatations have the benefit of creating positive neural pathways in your brain, so the more you mettatate the happier you can become, so when you sit down to mediate your mind can already be in a more positive place to begin with.

Meditating can be intimidating or difficult to start because it's not always explained or taught properly. And if your mind is in a chaotic state it can be hard to calm it down without an active practice. There are many different ways to meditate and really any time when you are thinking about what you're thinking about, or you are mindful of where you are and what you are doing, you are meditating. You can also work on just trying to be still and to calm and slow down your mind and thoughts. It can be easy sometimes and it can be challenging at other times.

Mettâtating is always easy. Mettatations actively engage your mind so you don't have to wonder if you are doing it right or not. You aren't left alone with your thoughts which can be daunting.

Some Mettatations could be considered guided meditations with the option to move, touch, and do breath work. Once you've tried a few mettatations, you can move from "guided" Mettatations to Open Mettatations where you can direct the positive feelings, thoughts, and actions you want to cultivate.

An analogy about meditation that we often hear is that meditating is like taking your monkey mind and tying it to a stake to try to train it to be still. Mettâtations are more like putting your monkey mind on a leash and taking it on a walk to actively train it and teach it good habits.

Mettâtating regularly will help you be more Mindful and this will carry through all aspects of your life. You will become a more loving, peaceful, and compassionate person. And Mettâtating is eas.

Mettatations

Mettatations actively work on cultivating positive thoughts and emotions, where as meditations try to get you to neutral state. Meditating takes you to a place of indifference, while Mettatating actively works on cultivating positive virtues.

The Foundations of Mettatations

Mettâtations are the integration of several practices into new healing, restorative, and energizing practices. To understand the practice fully, you can examine the individual and integration of the different components listed below. Mettatations are powerful and multi-faceted practices directly connecting the internal (mind, body, spirit), external (others/world), and universal; with the past, present, future.

Positive Psychology

Positive Psychology

How we use our mind to help ourselves flourish is the most important thing to master. Happiness only comes from within our mind. What we think about things is more important than the thing that happens. Let's actively build positive thoughts and turn them into positive actions.

Breath

Breath / Air Energy
Pranayama

Air is literally energy. We take the breathe, the air for granted. The air we breathe holds the energy of the universe. We can bless the air we breathe and use it to heal and rejuvenate our body and mind.

Touch

Touch

Touching is essential for normal human development. Yet, in many cultures we don't touch. Unfortunately, touch, like love, can be misunderstood and make people uncomfortable. Yet it is an extremely powerful energy source that we can use to heal and energize our body and mind.

Movement

Movement

Movement during Mettâtation. Movement helps us to directly access the energy in our body so that we can replace it with positive energy. Movement is encouraged in Mettâtations. Move and do what makes your body feel good!

Meditation

Meditation

The meditation part of mettâtation practices is different. Mettâtations have a goal. Instead of trying to create space from our thoughts, we are actively creating positive thoughts and energy within our mind, body, and hearts.

Yoga

Yoga

Mettâtations fall under the larger 'Yoga' umbrella. It is a combination of the branches of Yoga into a new practice with the added advantage of integrating the latest benefits of positive psychology research. Move, Breathe, Live Well.
